We wish a hardy Mazel Tov to Michelle Chamuel who came in second place on Tuesday evening’s finale of NBC’s THE VOICE. The alt-rocker grew in popularity with each of her performances, showcasing not only strong vocals, but a killer personality and performance style. She handily mixed rockstar quality with moving lyric delivery in performances varying from Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” to Taylor Swift’s “Trouble.”

In the final performance episode, we also enjoyed seeing Michelle’s mother sit down with Usher and discuss what it’s like to be a Jewish immigrant to the United States and proud Mom to her talented daughter. In her conversation, she shared:

Michelle:

“My mom is amazing and incredible and I wouldn’t be the person I am without her.”

Usher:

“Where are you guys originally from?”

Michelle’s Mom:

“I come from a Jewish family in Egypt. We’ve been there for centuries. Because of the political climate, we were refugees in the 1967 war, and then joined my mother’s brothers in the states.”

Michelle:

“My parents came here as refugees and this is definitely what they want for me. To be able to live the American Dream, it all means so much to me.”
